International size labels are useful reference points, not exact universal measurements. A careful conversion starts with the specific brand chart and a current measurement of your feet.
Why conversion charts do not always agree
Brands can use different lasts, rounding conventions and men’s or women’s scales. Two charts that both say “EU 42” may not produce exactly the same fit.
Use the product-specific chart first
Start with the manufacturer’s chart for the exact product where possible. If only foot length is provided, measure both feet and compare the larger result with that chart.
- Confirm whether the chart is for men, women or unisex sizing.
- Check whether measurements are in centimetres or inches.
- Read fit notes for narrow, wide or particularly shaped styles.
- Keep the packaging and try new shoes indoors.
Keep returns policies in mind
Before an international order, review the return window, return shipping cost and any conditions for trying footwear. A clear policy is especially important when you cannot try the exact model in person.
