How to Find the Right Shoe Fit

A practical fit checklist covering length, width, heel movement and the best time to measure your feet.

How to Find the Right Shoe Fit

A shoe that looks right but fits poorly will spend more time on the shelf than on the street. Use these checks to make a more informed choice before ordering.

Measure both feet later in the day

Feet can change slightly in size during the day. Measure both while standing, and use the larger measurement as your starting point. Wear the socks you expect to use with the shoes.

Check more than the number on the label

Sizing can differ between brands and silhouettes. Treat conversion charts as guidance rather than a universal rule, then consult the specific product guide whenever one is available.

  • Leave a small, comfortable space ahead of your longest toe.
  • The widest part of your foot should sit comfortably without pinching.
  • Your heel should feel secure without painful rubbing.
  • Walk on a clean indoor surface before deciding to keep the pair.

Do not size up to solve every width issue

A longer shoe is not always a wider shoe. If the midfoot or toe box feels tight, look for a different shape or width option instead of automatically choosing a larger size.
